Staying Safe & Prepared: US Travel

Sipekne’katik Travel Advisory: Safe Travel to the U.S.📍

Chief and Council want to ensure our members are protected while travelling across the border. Due to reports of increased questioning and detentions by U.S. officials (CBP/ICE), we strongly encourage all members to take extra precautions.

Travel Document Checklist:
✔️Primary: Secure Status Card (SCIS).
✔️Secondary: Valid Canadian Passport (dual citizens should carry both).
✔️Supporting: Provincial ID and a Blood Quantum Letter.

➡️Note on Blood Letters: A letter confirming at least 50% Native blood is required for entry under the Jay Treaty and is highly recommended for all members as added protection. To request one, contact Tricia Fultz at 902-758-4568 or tfultz@sipeknekatik.ca.

Safety Protocols:
✔️Check-In: Share your itinerary with family and establish a "safe arrival" contact.
✔️Local Support: Reach out to nearby Indigenous or Tribal communities across the border for an added safety net.
✔️In Emergencies: If questioned or detained, stay calm, request a supervisor, and call the Canadian Consulate at 1-613-996-8885.
