RE: Respecting Community Spaces & Worksites

With the 2026 Nova Scotia Mi’kmaw Summer Games right around the corner, our community is working hard to put the finishing touches on our grounds and facilities. These spaces represent a huge investment in Sipekne’katik - built to showcase our community pride when welcoming athletes, families, and visitors.

Many of the crew members working long hours on these projects are our own community members, neighbours, and family. They are putting in valuable time and hard work to build something we can all be proud of and deserve our respect and support as they complete these projects.

Taking care of our shared property is a team effort. We kindly ask for everyone’s cooperation with the following:

• Soil mounds, gravel, piping, and other building supplies are active parts of ongoing construction. Please speak with youth and your peers to ensure these materials are left undisturbed, so our crews don't have to re-do work or face lost, broken, or damaged gear.

• Riding four-wheelers, ATVs, or dirt bikes across freshly prepped dirt, lawns, or sports fields damages the grounds and undoes days of hard work. Please keep off-road vehicles strictly on designated trails.

With heavy machinery and work sites, our highest priority must be safety. Please remember:

• Large equipment like excavators and loaders have severe blind spots. For your safety, always stay at least 50 feet (approx. 15 meters) away from operating machinery.

• Even when machinery is parked and sites are quiet, active construction zones are off-limits for recreational use or playing.
